Music (SOS)

Introduction

Listening to music and/or singing along to it can have many benefits. Reduced stress and anxiety, calmness, and increased energy and optimism are all advantages when it comes to engaging with music. With that said, it can be helpful to identify different types of music for different needs. For this activity, we encourage you to create a music playlist for each need. For example, if you need to calm down and relax from a stressful day, create a music playlist full of songs that put you in a relaxed mood/state of mind. You can then come back to that same playlist the next time you have a stressful day. See the information below for more ideas.

How it Works

1. Music

Identify choices & store a play list. Listening to music/singing along to music can help to:

  • Reduce stress
  • Reduce anxiety
  • Encourage a sense of calm
  • Increase optimism
  • Increase energy
  • Improve general well-being

Be careful not to listen to music that causes agitation/aggravation.

2. Playlist

  • Identify different types of music for different needs
  • Create playlists for each need. For example:
    • Playlist 1 – calming
    • Playlist 2 – lifting spirits, increasing feeling of well-being
    • Playlist 3 – re-energizing

Store in your phone, your car, or somewhere that you can easily access it.
